Long-time relief pitcher Ryan Pressly announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Saturday after 13 years.

Pressly, a two-time All-Star, won a World Series with the 2022 Houston Astros squad - the same year he set a career high with 33 saves as their closer.

"Hoisting the World Series trophy in 2022 and closing for Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, those are things I always dreamed of," said Pressly in a statement.

"I'll carry that joy forever. Houston, you've got our hearts - it's our forever home now. Thank you."

After spending the first six-and-a-half years of his career with the Minnesota Twins (2013-2018), the 37-year-old Pressly would start to shine in the following seven years with the Astros (2018-2024) after the team traded for him.

"20,346 is a number I will cherish forever," said Pressly in a statement. "The Minnesota Twins allowed me to become just the 20,346th person to ever compete in a major league uniform, something I will never take for granted."

Pressly finished his career with a 3.33 earned run average and 117 saves in 667 games. He'd put up 721 strikeouts in 691.1 innings, while giving up 207 walks and 611 hits.

He was selected to the American League All-Star team for the first time in his career during his first full season (2019) with the Astros then again in 2021.

His single-season career high in strikeouts came in 2018 when he threw a combined 101 strikeouts between his time with the Twins and Astros.

Pressly finished his career after spending his final season as a member of the Chicago Cubs, where he threw a 4.35 ERA in 44 games (41.1 innings).
