Ikast Handball on Saturday crashed out of the Champions League after suffering a 37-28 defeat away against Romanian outfit Gloria Bistrita in the second leg of their clash in the 1/8-final of the tournament. Ikast also lost the first between the two clubs 35-34

At the start of the match, both teams seemed very equal, and there were indications that the match was headed for a tight decision.

Ikast managed to make it a tight affair for the majority of the game, and the Romanians only went into the break with a narrow lead of 16-15.

In the second half, Ikast even looked like they were on the verge of staging a comeback when Julie Scaglione put the Danes ahead 23-21 with just over fifteen minutes left.

But then the Romanians stepped up a gear while the visitors lost their composure.

Gloria Bistrita looked sharper in the decisive moments of the game as the Danes collapsed in the final phase of the game.

The home team was led by the Spanish defender Danila So Delgado, who scored 11 goals in the first match in Ikast and scored 14 goals in Saturday's match.

This turned Danila So Delgado into the match's leading goal scorer, with twice as many goals as the second-highest goal scorer, Jamina Roberts, scoring seven times for Ikast.

Tactical changes from the Danish bench took a long time to arrive, and Ikast never managed to deal with the threat of the strong So Delgado.

Ikast coach Claus Mogensen finally called a timeout when the team fell behind 24-28 with just over seven minutes left, but it was too late. Ikasts biggest profile, Julia Scaglione, could take heart from the fact that she had returned from an ACL injury to record her first 100+ goals campaign in the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, Gloria Bistrița will face Brest Bretagne Handball on April 18-19 (home) and April 25-26 (away).
