Ikast on Saturday afternoon took a vital step towards securing a spot among the two top teams in Champions League Group B who will automatically qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament when they won 35-33 against Krim Ljubliana in Slovenia.

Ikast are in joint second place in the group with 16 points, and thanks to the win, added pressure on clubs such as Odense, Ferencvaros, and Brest, who are part of the close fight for the top two spots.

There are still two games left in the group stage. However, Ikast are already certain to advance to two playoff matches to reach the quarterfinals.

But the dream of a direct spot in the quarter-finals is also still alive.

While the Ikast attack looked dangerous throughout the encounter against Ljubljana, the defense left something to be desired against the Slovenian hosts.

The Danes always looked strong during counter attacks but still couldn't shake off the Slovenians, who are currently bottom of the group. This resulted in a narrow lead for Ikast at the interval (17-16).

Slovenia's Ana Abina, in particular, was a threat that Ikast never handled to perfection.

The Ikast defense didn't fare much better after the break, but Krim Ljubljana lacked the final quality and never quite managed to close the gap against Ikast, who secured a vital win.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
