The New York Rangers rallied to take a win from their rival Philadelphia Flyers, while the Minnesota Wild extended their winning streak to an NHL-best seven games during December 20th's slate of games

Rangers 5-4 Flyers

Artemi Panarin (13) scored two goals in the first two periods for the Rangers, but a four-goal second period for Philly put them up 4-2 heading into the third.

New York would rally behind a goal from Vincent Trocheck (6) and one on the power play from Mika Zibanejad (12) with under three minutes to go to send it into overtime.

After a scoreless OT, Trocheck would score once more during the shootout before Panarin would prove clutch and win the game for the boys in blue.

The Rangers improved to 18-15-4, while the Flyers fell to 17-10-7.

Red Wings 5-2 Capitals

The Red Wings would come out of the tunnel firing on all cylinders, scoring four straight goals in the first two periods.

Rookie John Leonard, brother of Capitals' forward Ryan Leonard, scored his first career NHL goal to get things started.

Aliaksei Protas (12) and Martin Fehervary (3) would cut the lead in half for the Caps to make it 4-2, but Detroit's star Dylan Larkin (18) sent home an empty-netter as Detroit improved to 20-13-3.

They jumped Washington in the Eastern Conference standings as the Caps fell to 19-12-4.

Senators 6-4 Blackhawks

Both teams exchanged three goals each through the first two periods before the Senators started to pull away in the final frame.

David Perron (7) would score two goals for Ottawa at the start of the third, one on a power play, to give them a commanding 5-3 lead.

Rookie Nick Lardis scored his first career NHL goal to cut the lead to one, but Fabian Zetterlund (7) would help the Sens bury the Blackhawks with one final goal as they moved on to their third-straight win.

Ottawa improved to 17-13-4, Chicago fell to 13-16-6 and have lost five straight.

Wild 5-2 Oilers

Connor McDavid (22) and Andrew Mangiapane (5) tied it up for the Oilers 2-2, both assisted by Leon Draisaitl (33), after Minnesota's Matthew Boldy (22) scored the first two goals of the game.

But Edmonton couldn't hang on as Minnesota scored three straight goals to put it out of reach.

The Wild are now undefeated (4-0) since trading for Quinn Hughes and are currently riding an NHL-best seven-game win streak. They improved to 22-9-5 on the season.

Mathew Barzal (10) scored the first to cut the lead in half before the end of the second, while Emil Heineman (12) scored on the power play with just 29 seconds left in regulation to tie it up.

Despite going 4-on-3 during OT with a power play, the Islanders couldn't find the net, eventually losing during the shootout.

Barzal scored for New York in the shootout, but a pair of goals from Jack Quinn and Josh Norris helped the Sabres improve to 16-14-4.

Canucks 5-4 Bruins

Linus Karlsson (7) scored twice for the Canucks, while Liam Ohgren (2) scored twice (with the game-winner during the shootout).

After both teams rallied from different deficits, Andrew Peeke (3) scored the one that sent it into overtime to keep the Bruins alive.

But after a scoreless OT, the Canucks hung on for the win thanks to Ohgren scoring the only goal of both teams in the shootout.

Vancouver, once at the bottom of the entire league, leaped up to just four points out of the second wild card spot as they ride a four-game win streak and improved to 15-17-3.

The Bruins dropped back-to-back games and their third loss in the last four games as they fell to 20-15-1.
