An eight-game slate in the National Hockey League on Tuesday gave fans some overtime thrills, a rookie's debut, and the legend Sidney Crosby himself making league history!

Capitals 3-2 Lightning

Jake Guentzel (1) scored his first goal of the season to give Tampa an early 1-0 lead in the first period. But Washington's Aliaksei Protas (3), who teammate Ryan Leonard said was "a machine" and "the best player in the league", scored his third goal of the season to tie it up 1-1 in the second.

After Tampa went up with a Brayden Point power play goal, Tom Wilson responded with a power play goal of his own to send it to overtime tied up at two apiece.

Just over a minute into OT, Washington's Jakob Chychrun came in the clutch to give them their third win of the year.

Canadiens 5-4 Kraken

The two teams exchanged goals with one right after the other up through the second period, going into the third tied up 2-2. Alex Newhook (1) and Cole Caufield both score for the Habs, while Jaden Schwartz (1) and Jani Nyman (1) scored for the Kraken.

Then chaos ensued in the third period. Kirby Dach (1) put the Habs up 3-2. But Seattle's Jamie Oleksiak (1) and Jared McCann (3) put their team back on top 4-3.

Montreal's standout rookie Ivan Demidov would send the game to overtime with just under a few minutes left with his second career goal. That's when Caufield sent the Kraken home with the game-winner in OT.

The Habs improved to 3-1-0, while the 2-0-0 Kraken earned their first loss of the season.

Oilers 2-0 Rangers

The New York Rangers became the first team in NHL history to lose their first three home games to start a season.

Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner put up a 30-save shutout for his team's second win of the season.

Trent Frederic (1) and Adam Henrique (1) both recorded their first goals of the season, with Henrique's coming off a Connor McDavid assist, his fourth.

Maple Leafs 7-4 Predators

Toronto captain Auston Matthews (3) put up two goals in the team's dominant win over the Predators for their second win of the season.

Jake McCabe (1), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (1), John Tavares (1), Bobby McMann (2), and William Nylander (2) all scored the other five goals for Toronto against Nashville's backup goalie Justus Annunen, which was his first start of the season.

For the other side, Michael McCarron (1), Erik Haula (2), Roman Josi (1), and Nick Perbix (1) scored Nashville's four.

Nashville falls to 2-1-1 on the year.

Golden Knights 4-2 Flames

After going down 2-0 in the first period with goals from Calgary's Mikael Backlund (1) and Blake Coleman (2), the Golden Knights rallied by scoring four unanswered.

Jack Eichel (4) scored a pair, the lone second-period goal, and another in the third, while teammates Kaedan Korczak (1) and Tomas Hertl (1) scored the others.

Both teams put up a combined 59 shots (VGK - 30, CAL - 29).

Vegas improved to 2-0-2 on the season. Calgary fell to the Western Conference's worst with a 1-3-0 record.

Stars 5-2 Wild

The Dallas Stars stay undefeated as they start their season 4-0-0 and sit atop the Western Conference after their win over the Wild.

Esa Lindell (1), Wyatt Johnston (3), and Matt Duchene (1) got the Stars out to a 3-0 lead that Minnesota couldn't recover from.

Matt Boldy (4) and Kirill Kaprizov (4) cut the lead to 3-2 for the Wild with back-to-back power play goals.

But a pair of empty-netters from Radek Faksa (1) and Roope Hintz (1) put the final nails in the coffin.

Minnesota falls to 2-2 to start their season.

Hurricanes 5-1 Sharks

San Jose Sharks' rookie and No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, Michael Misa, took to the ice for their matchup against the Hurricanes, making his NHL debut.

Carolina proved too strong, though, coming through 5-1 to win their third successive match.

Penguins 3-4 Ducks

After falling 2-0 down in the opening period, Anaheim Ducks rallied to win a closely-fought contest 4-3.

Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby moved up to ninth place on the NHL's all-time assists list with No. 1,064 (watch here).
